HIGHLIGHT

On April 1, 2019, Igor Muševič was awarded the prestigious ERC Advanced grant Light-operated logic circuits from photonic soft-matter (LOGOS). The project has been External link opens in new tab or windowhighlighted by the ERC as an example of a distinguished ERC project. LOGOS aims to establish a revolutionary photonic technology based on soft matter. The project began on January 1, 2021.

Our research is focused on self-assembly, topology and photonic properties of liquid crystal colloids and liquid crystal dispersions. We use a variety of optical methods to study the structure and phase transitions in these systems. We use optical tweezers to manipulate colloidal particles and study structural forces in liquid crystal colloids. We fabricate complex shaped colloidal particles by 2-photon polymerisation and we study the topology and phase properties of their LC dispersions. In another line of studies we explore photonic properties of micro-droplets of liquid crystals, growth of LC fibres and their photonic properties. Recently, we focused our attention to skyrmions in Blue Phase liquid crystals.
